    https://www.gaudry.be > Photo > Galerie
[28] 09/07/2011 - Dernière modification le 25/02/2021 Van Abbe Museum The Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven is one of the first public museums for contemporary art to be established in Europe. The museum’s collection of around 2700 works of art includes key works and archives by Lissitzky, Picasso, Kokoschka, Chagall, Beuys, McCarthy, Daniëls and Körmeling. The museum has an experimental approach towards art’s role in society. Openness, hospitality and knowledge exchange are important. We challenge ourselves and our visitors to think about art and its place in the world, covering a range of subjects, including the role of the collection as a cultural 'memory' and the museum as a public site. International collaboration and exchange have made the Van Abbemuseum a place for creative cross-fertilisation and a source of surprise, inspiration and imagination for its visitors and participants. [29] 27/07/2011 - Dernière modification le 26/02/2021 This building is a landmark at the head of the JF Kennedylaan. It is an exciting construction of glass and steel. From the outside, the construction is noticeable because the walls are made of glass from floor to ceiling. The tension is further increased because the upper part of the tower is wider than the lower part. The façade itself consists of a double skin: an outer skin of glass and then 60 inches wide ventilated cavity and finally the inner skin of double glazing. Source: Mimoa

    https://www.gaudry.be > Photo > Galerie
[37] 18/01/2021 - Dernière modification le 11/02/2021 Imperia Impéria was a Belgian automobile manufactured from 1906 until 1948. Products of the Ateliers Piedboeuf of Liège, the first cars were designed by the German Paul Henze. These were fours of 3, 4.9, and 9.9 liters. /.../ Impéria produced a monobloc 12 hp (8.9 kW) in 1909; in 1910 the company merged with Springuel. The factory producing Impéria-Abadals from about 1916; in 1921, it built three ohc 5·6-liter straight-eights. These were quickly replaced by an ephemeral ohc 3-liter 32-valve four which was capable of going 90 mph (140 km/h). This was followed by an 1100 cc side-valve 11/22 hp four designed by Couchard, one of the first cars ever built with a sunroof. Its engine rotated counter-clockwise, and its transmission brake also served as a servo for those on the front wheels. In 1937 a six of 1624 cc appeared; this had been available in three-carburettor Super Sports form from 1930. Over the course of four years Impéria took over three other Belgian car manufacturers: Métallurgique (1927), Excelsior (1929), and Nagant (1931). From 1934 until the company folded it built mainly front-wheel-drive Adlers with Belgian-made coachwork. The company merged with Minerva in 1934, but they split in 1939. After 1948 Impéria assembled Adlers and Standard Vanguards under license. After Standard decided to set up a new factory in Belgium, the factory was left without work and had to close doors in 1957. In 1925, the company hired Louis de Monge as chief research engineer. Some of his work included torsion bar suspension and automatic transmissions. De Monge left in 1937 to join Ettore Bugatti for whom he would design the Bugatti 100P racer plane. In addition to its production in Belgium, Impéria made a number of cars in Great Britain; these were assembled at a factory in Maidenhead. Rooftop test track Around and on top of the factory buildings, there was a test track over 1km long. The track was built in 1928. The test drivers used the roads of the village, a road with a lot of bends. Speeding and high revving engines made the population mad and they were no longer willing to support the factory. The only solution was to build a test track within the factory and using the football field of the local football club. The ring started within the factory, then over the roof which gave a track of about one kilometre. Only Fiat had a similar track. This little test track became an attraction in the region. A little causeway allowed people to climb onto the nearside hill to watch the spectacle of car testing over the factories roofs. And now Now most of the buildings are occupied by a firm of construction, and a few sheds and batiments are so ruined that the roof risks to collapse. There are still two vehicles (under the dust and the building materials), among which one may be an Imperia model. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

[40] 07/11/2011 - Dernière modification le 20/02/2021 Windgrafiek GLOW - International Forum of Light in Art and Architecture Eindhoven 2011 - 6th Edition - 'Illusion and reality' Due to the dedication of CityDynamiek Eindhoven, from November, 5th to 12th, 2011, the city center of Eindhoven turns again into a forum of interventions, installations, performances and events based on the phenomena of artificial light. Location: Dommelbrug Noord About the project: The balloons with a diameter of ca. 2 meter are filled with helium and fitted with LED lighting. When there is low wind velocity they are allowed to flow vertically into the sky on a 100-meter-long cord. The upward force of the helium ensures that the cord is drawn upwards, while the wind pushes it aside. In this way the cord of luminescent balloons becomes a graph whose shape is determined by the wind. At high wind speeds the balloons are kept closer to the ground in other patterns. Wind graph is designed and executed by Ralph Brodruck and the Tendris Company. About the photo This picture is a merge of 3 photos of the balloons moving in the wind, with a speed of 0,005 sec (1/200). From Glow 2011 website.

Location: TU/e campus, bij gebouw Impuls About the project: Michel Suk has used theatrical and design techniques to arrive at Transformation. In this work of light art he gives center stage to personal formation and development. Characteristic of Transformation are the multiples of knowledge and continuous innovation, nurtured from a common source: Eindhoven University of Technology. This energy is enclosed and embedded in a steel tube and can only exit this tube through an organized structure in the metal. Only a purely pointed source of light unlocks and translates the structure in the metal into a circular projection. The result: a concentrically arranged light projection on the floor whose rings are not in contact with each other, but which do originate from the same source. To illustrate knowledge, the wood has been changed as if by magic into a whispering wood, where one hears whispers of mysterious scientific formulae. From Glow 2011 website.

To illustrate knowledge, the wood has been changed as if by magic into a whispering wood, where one hears whispers of mysterious scientific formulae. From Glow 2011 website.

[43] 09/11/2011 - Dernière modification le 23/02/2021 War Veteran Vehicle (Krzysztof Wodiczko) GLOW - International Forum of Light in Art and Architecture Eindhoven 2011 - 6th Edition - 'Illusion and reality' Due to the dedication of CityDynamiek Eindhoven, from November, 5th to 12th, 2011, the city center of Eindhoven turns again into a forum of interventions, installations, performances and events based on the phenomena of artificial light. Location: Square 18 septemberplein About the project: Originally from Poland but since 1977 a resident of the united states Krzysztof Wodiczko has become famous for his socially engaged and politically charged work. Since the eighties, he has realized numerous projects in public space. With his art he wants to increase people\u2019s awareness of the social conditions in their immediate environment and to contribute to the political debate. During GLOW he presents War Veteran Vehicle, a military vehicle that has served in war zones for the Dutch army, now driving through the streets of Eindhoven. It is equipped with a projector that fires words on the facades of the 18 September Square, accompanied by sounds. The projected images are quotes from national and local war veterans and their families. They explain why the transition from the battlefield to a civilian life has been difficult for them. With his work Wodiczko hopes that people will open their eyes for the traumatic effects military missions could cause. He offers war veterans and their families the opportunity to speak out in public and to share their experiences. At the same time he focuses on the personal problems of veterans in their own environment. From Glow 2011 website.

Location: Market Square About the project: In collaboration with CultuurStation, the mediator between culture and education in Eindhoven, students of primary schools in Eindhoven and its environs were invited to design their own light. The response was overwhelming. About thousand students showed their creativity and decorated their own lampshades. The required lights were provided by the Lichtjesroute Eindhoven. Volunteers from the Scouting Dr. Albert Schweitzer helped to connect and install the creations. The result is a great piece of artwork that seems to float above the Market Square. An event like GLOW is an excellent opportunity to make children aware of the importance of renewable energy. Therefore the Environmental Education Center (MEC) gladly joined this initiative. With special education material of the MEC, teachers focused on smart and responsible use of light From Glow 2011 website.

Location: Catharina Church About the project: The four members of the Swiss Projektil focus on projections of huge dimensions in the public space. Using light, shape and color they tell stories and offer people a fascinating experience. For GLOW Projektil uses both old and new projection techniques. Until recently, large-scale projections usually apply analog projectors, that only show static or scrolling images. These in fact function as large slide projectors. A relatively young technique that has developed rapidly is video mapping. With this technique video images can be projected very accurate and with high light intensity which creates a powerful illusion. In Charm on Speed both projection techniques are used. The characteristics of both methods are combined and playfully confront each other. The result is a feast for the eyes and brings the facade of the Catharina Church to life. From Glow 2011 website.

Location: van Abbemuseum About the project: This work by Xavier de Richemont was the opening act at the launch of GLOW in 2006. Because five years ago only a few people have actually seen it, this year a repetition follows. A performance on the outer walls of the Van Abbe Museum suggests the building is on fire and burns within minutes. The projection is strong and closely matches the shape of the building, so the actual structure of the museum disappears and the fire looks genuine. With this work De Richemont refers to a quote from Pablo Picasso, where he calls for burning down the museums, because creativity is only locked up here. By taking down the proverbial walls, the gap between art and audience can be closed. The accompanying music is inspired by a composition of Claude Débussy. From Glow 2011 website. [50] 09/11/2011 - Dernière modification le 21/02/2021 Van Abbe Museum The Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven is one of the first public museums for contemporary art to be established in Europe. Location: TU/e en Kennispoort About the project: On the TU/e campus and surrounding area lighting designer Michel Suk fully lightens different buildings and landscape elements. Large-scale installations slowly change color or reveal patterns which alternately show chaos and order. Because the light programs are linked together, the overall view is impressive. Visitors walk through a landscape of light and color in which vistas and sight lines continuously cause other images. To mark the 120 year anniversary of Philips the concern supports this project of Michel Suk. His work seamlessly connect to the Philips theme of \u2018Livable Cities\u2019. Absolute eye-catcher in this large installation is the building of Kennispoort. This is the scenery for a co-production of Michel Suk and composer Bart van Dongen. Accompanied by a wind instruments ensemble and electronics a choir of 150 to 200 singers performs a new composition by Bart van Dongen. By using projections Michel Suk provides for a powerful visual counterweight. Because Van Dongen and Suk have worked together from the start lighting and sound are integrated beautifully. Both images and music of Beauty of stagnation are based on the Fibonacci number sequence, which describes growth processes in nature. In both media small entities accumulate to large and complex constructions. For example the projection of a line develops into a tree structure or a color into a fine mosaic. The words and sounds of the music composition evolve gradually into extensive rhythms and tunes. From Glow 2011 website.

They were inspired by the gloomy vista on the dark side of the railway station with the constantly coming and going of trains. Using projections, lighting effects and sounds they show us in a poetic way an illusion that closely intertwines reality. The title of the work is not only a contraction of 'Metropolis' and 'lux' (light), but also refers to the famous 1927 movie by Fritz Lang: Metropolis. This movie is about a futuristic city and contains some then ultamodern special effects. Metropolis has influenced generations of artists and filmmakers, and still appeals when imagining the urban environment. The project is supported by Rot8ion. Rot8ion is a surround sound instrument. The Rot8ion instrument creates spatial surround soundscapes and live surround performances. For Metropolux, Rob van Rooij (Echonaut from the Collider Collective) created a surround soundscape with the Rot8ion instrument. From Glow 2011 website.

[59] 20/02/2012 - Dernière modification le 20/02/2021 The Basilica Cistern (Turkish: Yerebatan Sarayı - "Sunken Palace", or Yerebatan Sarnıcı - "Sunken Cistern"), is the largest of several hundred ancient cisterns that lie beneath the city of Istanbul (formerly Constantinople), Turkey. The cistern, located 500 feet (150 m) southwest of the Hagia Sophia on the historical peninsula of Sarayburnu, was built in the 6th century during the reign of Byzantine Emperor Justinian I. History The name of this subterranean structure derives from a large public square on the First Hill of Constantinople, the Stoa Basilica, beneath which it was originally constructed. Before being converted to a cistern, a great Basilica stood in its place, built between the 3rd and 4th centuries during the Early Roman Age as a commercial, legal and artistic centre. The basilica was reconstructed by Ilius after a fire in 476. Ancient texts indicated that the basilica contained gardens, surrounded by a colonnade and facing the Church of Hagia Sophia According to ancient historians, Emperor Constantine built a structure that was later rebuilt and enlarged by Emperor Justinian after the Nika riots of 532, which devastated the city. Historical texts claim that 7,000 slaves were involved in the construction of the cistern. The enlarged cistern provided a water filtration system for the Great Palace of Constantinople and other buildings on the First Hill, and continued to provide water to the Topkapı Palace after the Ottoman conquest in 1453 and into modern times. In media The cistern was used as a location for the 1963 James Bond film From Russia with Love. In the film, it is referred to as being constructed by the Emperor Constantine, with no reference to Justinian. Its location is a considerable distance from the Soviet (now Russian) consulate, which is located in Beyoğlu, the "newer" European section of Istanbul, on the other side of the Golden Horn. The finale of the 2009 film The International takes place in a fantasy amalgam of the Old City, depicting the Basilica Cistern as lying beneath the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, which, in the film, is directly adjacent to the Süleymaniye Mosque. In the 2011 video game, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, the player controlled character, Ezio Auditore, is given the chance to explore a section of this cistern in a memory sequence entitled The Yerebatan Cistern. • Istanbul, Topkapi palace - Imperial Council (Defterhāne)
    https://www.gaudry.be > Photo > Galerie
[63] 22/02/2012 - Dernière modification le 04/02/2021 Defterhāne This picture shows the third chamber called Defterhāne. Imperial Council The Imperial Council (Dîvân-ı Hümâyûn) building is the chamber in which the ministers of state, council ministers (Dîvân Heyeti), the Imperial Council, consisting of the Grand Vizier (Paşa Kapısı), viziers, and other leading officials of the Ottoman state, held meetings. It is also called Kubbealtı, which means "under the dome", in reference to the dome in the council main hall. It is situated in the northwestern corner of the courtyard next to the Gate of Felicity. The first Council chambers in the palace were built during the reign of Mehmed II, and the present building dates from the period of Süleyman the Magnificent by the chief architect Alseddin. It has since undergone several changes, was much damaged and restored after the Harem fire of 1665, and according to the entrance inscription it was also restored during the periods of Selim III and Mahmud II. From the 18th century onwards, the place began to lose its original importance, as state administration was gradually transferred to the Sublime Porte (Bâb-ı Âli) of the Grand Viziers. The last meeting of the Council in the palace chambers was held on Wednesday, August 30, 1876, when the cabinet (Vükela Heyeti) met to discuss the state of Murat V, who had been indisposed for some time. The council hall has multiple entrances both from inside the palace and from the courtyard. The porch consists of multiple marble and porphyry pillars, with an ornate green and white-coloured wooden ceiling decorated with gold. The floor is covered in marble. The entrances into the hall from outside are in the rococo style, with gilded grills to admit natural light. While the pillars are earlier Ottoman style, the wall paintings and decorations are from the later rococo period. Inside, the Imperial Council building consists of three adjoining main rooms. Two of the three domed chambers of this building open into the porch and the courtyard. The Divanhane, built with a wooden portico at the corner of the Divan Court (Divan Meydani) in the 15th century, was later used as the mosque of the council but was removed in 1916. There are three domed chambers: - The first chamber where the Imperial Council held its deliberations is the Kubbealtı. - The second chamber was occupied by the secretarial staff of the Imperial Divan. - In the adjacent third chamber called Defterhāne (this view) , records were kept by the head clerks. The last room also served as a document archive. On its facade are verse inscriptions, which mention the restoration work carried out in 1792 and 1819, namely under Sultan Selim III and Mahmud II. The rococo decorations on the façade and inside the Imperial Council date from this period. The main chamber Kubbealtı is, however, decorated with Ottoman Kütahya tiles. Three long sofas along the sides were the seats for the officials, with a small hearth in the middle. The small gilded ball that hangs from the ceiling represents the earth. It is placed in front of the sultan's window and symbolizes him dispensing justice to the world, as well as keeping the powers of his viziers in check. In the Imperial Council meetings, the political, administrative and religious affairs of the state and important concerns of the citizens were discussed. The Imperial Council normally met four times a week (Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday) after prayer at dawn. The meetings of the Imperial Council were run according to an elaborate and strict protocol. Council members such as the Grand Vizier, viziers, chief military officials of the Muslim Judiciary (Kazaskers) of Rumelia and Anatolia, the Minister of Finance or heads of the Treasury (defterdar), the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Reis-ül-Küttab) and sometimes the Grand Müfti (Sheikh ül-İslam) met here to discuss and decide the affairs of state. Other officials who were allowed were the Nişancilar secretaries of the Imperial Council and keepers of the royal monogram (tuğra) and the officials charged with the duty of writing official memoranda (Tezkereciler), and the clerks recording the resolutions. From the window with the golden grill, the Sultan or the Valide Sultan was able to follow deliberations of the council without being noticed. The window could be reached from the imperial quarters in the adjacent Tower of Justice (Adalet Kulesi). When the sultan rapped on the grill or drew the red curtain, the Council session was terminated, and the viziers were summoned one by one to the Audience Hall (Arz Odası) to present their reports to the sultan. All the statesmen, apart from the Grand Vizier, performed their dawn prayers in the Hagia Sophia and entered the Imperial Gate according to their rank, passing through the Gate of Salutation and into the divan chamber, where they would wait for the arrival of the Grand Vizier. The Grand Vizier performed his prayers at home, and was accompanied to the palace by his own attendants. On his arrival there, he was given a ceremonial welcome, and before proceeding to the imperial divan, he would approach the Gate of Felicity and salute it as if paying his respects to the gate of the sultan's house. He entered the chamber and took his seat directly under the sultan's window and council commenced. Affairs of the state were generally discussed until noon, when the members of the Council dined in the chambers and after which petitions were heard here. All the members of Ottoman society, men and women of all creeds, were granted a hearing. An important ceremony was held to mark the first Imperial Council of each new Grand Vizier, and also to mark his presentation with the Imperial Seal (Mühr-ü Hümayûn). The most important ceremony took place every three months during the handing out of salaries (ulûfe) to the Janissaries. The reception of foreign dignitaries was normally arranged for the same day, creating an occasion to reflect the wealth and might of the state. Ambassadors were then received by the Grand Vizier in the Council chambers, where a banquet was held in their honour. Source: Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - version 10Mar2012

[68] 30/04/2012 - Dernière modification le 19/02/2021 The museum Ramioul: The museum is designed to encourage visitors not to look at prehistory from the outside but rather to make him live it by experiencing the sensations of prehistoric man. The exhibition collections refuses to privilege the public scholar, it aims instead to familiarize the visitor with prehistoric life itself rather than with the representation given by the Archaeology. The chronology is not the main theme of the course. The museum is structured according to themes of prehistoric life in order to create a genuine relationship between the daily life of the visitor and that of prehistoric man. For this purpose, the concept expographique refers to his daily life, in a participatory approach and a variety of scenic resources: interactive terminals, multimedia projections, reconstructions, facsimiles to handle, ... The cave Ramioul: The cave Ramioul is a treasure of natural heritage and archaeological Walloon. It is a listed site of the Walloon Region. Discoveries that were made and the beauty of its concretions make it unavoidable. Cave Ramioul extends to within one kilometer of the cave Engis which were discovered in 1829, the first Neanderthal fossils in the world. "Chercheurs de la Wallonie" fought for many years to preserve it, and it narrowly escaped the shots backhoe. Since its inception, Prehistoric - Museum of Prehistory in Wallonia, has made every effort to conserve, preserve and enhance this jewel stone and its biodiversity. The upper level of the cave has archaeological interest. The terrace was cleared in progressively different excavations. In October 1908, A. Vandebosch and her team of "Chercheurs de la Wallonie" discover the Neolithic ossuary of "triangular cave" that overlooks the terrace of the cave when masked by sediments. Shards of pottery, faunal remains, some stone tools and numerous body parts belonging to seven children and dated + / -2750 years BC have been unearthed. Continued excavations beneath the ossuary and the release of the entry in 1911, leading the researchers to explore the cave itself. It delivers the tools belonging to Palaeolithic industries as well as faunal remains of now extinct species (bear, lion, cave hyaena, wolf, woolly rhinoceros, mammoth). On the terrace, two archaeological layers were identified. The first was attributed to the Upper Palaeolithic to Aurigacien (+ / - 30000ans BC) and contains various tools slide and faunal remains consumed. The second oldest (+ / - 70000ans BC), contains tools and Middle Paleolithic characteristics attributed to Keilmessergruppen (Neanderthal). Cave Ramioul contributes to the dialogue between past and present. She is behind the Museum of Prehistory in Wallonia and participates in the ongoing dialogue established between the prehistoric sites of excavation, the archaeological material and the public. Source: Wikipedia Modern cowper consists in vertical steel cylinder 6 to 9 m and a diameter amounting to from 20 to 35 m. This enclosure is filled with refractory bricks whose nature depends on their role has insulating bricks that protect the inner face of the shield cowper, and storing and reproducing bricks heat. The latter are used in the construction of wells combustion, where the flame spreads, and rûchage, a stack of perforated bricks which absorbs heat of the fumes. The well is often integrated into the cylinder where it occupies about one third of the furnace section. The biggest feature cowpers outer wells to better isolate the combustion zone of the accumulator / heat delivery. Heating is slower than cooling, each blast furnace has three, sometimes four, stoves passing alternately in each phase. In continuous operation, cowper restores its heat for about 30 minutes before the wind is facing cowper who just finished a 50-minute heats (time at which there are the phases inerting and pressurization, lasting 10 min). Modern cowper can warm wind of about 1.4 tons to 1200 ° C, per ton of pig iron. When the heat returns, so this is for a blast furnace producing 6000 t of pig iron per day, a furnace with a capacity of approximately 100 MW. The heater is powered by combustion of part of the product through the furnace, which must be mixed with the rich gas to achieve the desired gas temperature.

Location: Lichtplein About the project: On the Lichtplein forty identical African masks are installed. The masks originate from the Bwindi National Park in Uganda, near the border with Congo. Once the first tones are played, the masks slowly light up. Colorful light can be seen through the openings for eyes and mouth, but also on a large projection screen that is prepared behind the masks. Small changes in exposure have a great visual impact. The show resembles most a magical ritual. What we hear is the composition Legend of the Bulgarian women's choir Angelite in cooperation with the overtone singers Huun Huur Tu from the Russian republic of Tuva. What light, singing and traditional masks have in common is that all components play a role in religious ceremonies. In countries and cultures all around the world, they are seen as a connection between the earthly and the heavenly or the supernatural. In this performance Richi Ferrero connects their symbolism and expressiveness. www.richiferrero.it More information: www.gloweindhoven.nl It was my prefered animation, and the music was really amazing.

Location: Wilhelminaplein About the project: TILT is a French collective focusing on the interplay of light, design and architecture. It realizes both temporary and permanent projects, always with the intention of making the audience look differently at the public space. The designs of TILT often are inspired by nature. Two years ago the collective presented luminous plants and trees on the 18 Septemberplein. This year the Wilhelminaplein is the setting for Bouquets d'abat-jours - bouquets of lampshades. These colorful bouquets are not made from flowers but from traditional lampshades. Although they are blown up to enormous proportions they keep reminding of the domesticity of the living room. The lamps kindly bend over the audience making the Wilheminaplein a pleasant place to stay. With their ever changing colors, they provide the square also a joyful and festive look. Location: Catharinakerk About the project: The track "Night on the Bald Mountain" by Mussorgsky is the basis for the installation of Les Orpailleurs the Lumière. It is inspired by a story of Nikolai Gogol. He describes a village that is visited by the devil as the night falls. Nightmarish scenes follow one another until the clock strikes and the day breaks again. Like the story the music of Mussorgsky is exciting and disturbing. But after the bell sounds, the music changes into a leisurely pace, and it is quiet again. In Sleepless night in full light the devil is replaced by a conductor. He gets caught up in the rhythm of the music and sees visions: animated music notes, orchestra members who turn into monsters, flying instruments. The church seems to be haunted. Until the clock strikes and the conductor comes back to his senses. The sun rises and the church is shrouded in a magical light. Location: DELA About the project: Last year during GLOW Afterlight impressed with the powerful work Interstices in a synaptic space. By optical illusions and misleading sounds the audience was carried away into an animated adventure through the human brain. This work is now on permanent display in the Molenstraat. For this edition Afterlight pushes the boundaries of illusion again in an encounter with the massive DELA building. Where the building has a flat facade at daytime, it comes alive during GLOW. Slowly the building loses his hard geometric structure. Straight forms change into organic patterns. Afterlight playfully takes the viewer on a three-dimensional journey and quest for identity. Location: Karel Vermeerenplantsoen About the project: A thousand colorful lampshades that floated above the Markt last year, was the beginning of a new tradition. This year Eindhoven365 and CultuurStation have again invited students of primary schools to participate GLOW. About two thousand enthusiastic children planted a light flower in the Karel Vermeerenplantsoen. Each student has made its own LED flower as part of a beautiful bouquet. Together the young designers have created a fairy artwork, a field of light flowers. For CultuurStation GLOW is an opportunity to enthuse children for cultural activities in their own town. The children were challenged to show their most creative side and are now proud ambassadors of Eindhoven. www.cultuurstation.nl More information: www.gloweindhoven.nl

Source: Wikipedia

[91] 16/11/2013 - Dernière modification le 16/02/2021 Large Pendulum Wave GLOW - International Forum of Light in Art and Architecture Eindhoven 2013 - 8th Edition - 'Urban Playground' From November, 9th to 16th 2013, the city center of Eindhoven turns again into a forum of interventions, installations, performances and events based on the phenomena of artificial light. Artist: Ivo Schoofs Location: Stationsplein About the project: Think maths and physics are boring? The Large Pendulum Wave proves the opposite! This installation – almost seven metres high – is proof that mathematical and physical principles are able to generate superbly lyrical images. Large Pendulum Wave consists of a frame to which fifteen pendulums are attached, each culminating in an illuminated sphere. The pendulums are of different lengths, generating random patterns. Continuous waves become groups of pendulums ‘dancing’ at different tempos, which eventually descend into an apparent chaos. A little later, and the spheres suddenly seem to resume an orderly, harmonious pattern. Not only the movement of the spheres, but the colour of their light, changes with an extraordinary sequencing. Together, the movements offer a dazzling spectacle. Ivo Schoofs and his team aim to bring science closer to the general public, with installations based on familiar phenomena and that are a delight to the eye. Source: gloweindhoven

Artist: Starsky Location: Beursgebouw About the project: The Austrian artist starsky is a master of all things to do with light. She creates light installations and large-scale projections, and provides the lighting for concerts and theatre productions, often as a VJ. In her work, she integrates language, graphic elements, moving image and film. Her goal is to use these ingredients to create a true total work of art. At the Beursgebouw, her installation is a projection that blurs the boundaries between the real and the fantastic. She plays with the relationship between architecture and the environment, with people’s movements in public space, and with the proportions of the human body, using these elements to create an ‘in between’ world - The Third Element. Now and then a hand appears that brushes away the generated images or turns them as if they were a page in a book, to reveal yet another image. What arises is a journey through imaginary worlds in which, from time to time, we discover a hint of the familiar. Music made possible by Spice. Source: gloweindhoven

Clashlight visualises the identity of the Philips Stadium. When you think of football stadiums words like harmony, competition, power, winning, struggle and pride always come to mind. The typical sounds of the Philips Stadium are fused into a composition. We hear the cheering of supporters, the train racing by and the reverberations of a concert by Guus Meeuwis. The Philips Stadium is, moreover, the only Stadium that has its ‘roots’ in light. So, inevitably, lamps and light are the stars of this show. Artist: Yoav Chomsky and Nisan Gelbard Location: Clausplein About the project: Yoav Chomsky grew up in rural Israel, among orchards and wide fields. The beauty of nature never ceases to amaze him, and the continuous change that goes hand in hand with growth, decay and the cycle of the seasons. These experiences defined his work as an artist. During GLOW, he presents Zinorot, a work that premiered last year in Jerusalem. Thousands of slender light threads are attached to an ingenious construction of metal tubes. Together they form a tree that has scrabbled its way out of the earth to reach a towering six meters in height. The lights are programmed to illuminate different parts of the tree in random sequence, making the branches appear to move, reaching upward towards another part of the heavens. The changing lighting is precisely in sync with the rhythm of the accompanying music, creating a breath-taking visual display, with an ever-changing chromatic spectrum. Source: gloweindhoven

Together with Lorenzo Pompei of Laser Entertainment, a company that creates laser and multimedial shows, he has developed the GreenPower Lagoon Monster. The work was first unveiled in Venice. The first patron saint of Venice was St. Theodore of Amasea, a Byzantine warrior who, legend has it, killed a dragon that was terrorising the town of Amasea. The story can be read as a metaphor for the victory of good over evil. During GLOW, this legend is brought to life in a completely fresh, new way. The dragon appears as a terrifying sea monster, rising up out of the waters of the Eindhoven canal. Only now, it isn’t St. Theodore of Amasea who vanquishes the dragon, but the technology of Davide Carioni and Lorenzo Pompei. Artist: Cotzen Location: Catharinakerk About the project: St Catherine’s Church (Catharinakerk) has been a witness to life in Eindhoven for 150 years. The city and its inhabitants have felt the ravages of rain, wind, heat and lightning more than once over the years. People living in an urban environment are less aware of the weather than those who live in the country. The French collective CozTen gives us an opportunity to feel and experience the sheer power of the elements. The Eye of Time is a story about dreams and memory told through the eyes of the Catharinakerk. Every lightning flash that appears triggers a flashback that explores a season or weather condition. Different elements of narrative focus on different parts of the church. Sometimes the story is told from the viewpoint of the large rose window; next it may be told by the buttresses or pinnacles. Using projections and coloured light, various episodes of the church’s history are portrayed. Artist: Jolanda Tielens Location: Oude muur de Effenaar About the project: The arched windows of this old building are covered with canvas. A reminder that behind this façade there was once a canvas factory. Seen from the street, the cloth appears to be lit with a white light, but from the rear it’s obvious that the white light is actually a composite of red, green and blue. When someone walks into the pools of light from these spotlights, their shadow dissolves into spangles of colour. You realise that you can actually paint with light on this virginal white canvas. The people on the street enjoy a shadow theatre that, thanks to the arched décor, brings to mind old-fashioned puppet theatres. The spontaneous scenes played out here couldn’t be more at home; just a stone’s throw away is De Effenaar, a pop venue. Jolanda Tielens is fascinated by the capacity of light to affect our perceptions of a space and direct our behaviour. This is precisely what the artist is exploring with her light projections. Sometimes Tielens opts for inconspicuous lighting and sometimes, such as here, light is centre stage. Source: gloweindhoven

[102] 16/11/2013 - Dernière modification le 17/02/2021 Tesseract GLOW - International Forum of Light in Art and Architecture Eindhoven 2013 - 8th Edition - 'Urban Playground' From November, 9th to 16th 2013, the city center of Eindhoven turns again into a forum of interventions, installations, performances and events based on the phenomena of artificial light. Artist: 1024 Architecture Location: Kanaalstraat About the project: In mathematics, the tesseract is the four-dimensional version of the cube. What the square is to the cube, the cube is the tesseract. The French collective 1024 architecture uses light to bring to life this dynamic shape. Scores of projectors mounted in an open scaffold construction are able to turn in any direction. Within the cube shape, the spotlights evoke a futuristic world. The work of 1024 architecture is in fact no longer sculpture but motion itself: an ever-evolving state of shape and space of which the spectator is a part. The installation offers us a new way of seeing the urban environment and literally invests everyday reality with an extra dimension. Like the cube, all the fixed shapes are translated into a fourth dimension. And how would the world look then? Source: gloweindhoven

Artist: Davide Carioni & Lorenzo Pompei Location: Kop van het kanaal About the project: Davide Carioni, also known as “Asker”, is a graphic designer, painter, graffiti artist and media artist. At their centre floats a giant flower, a floral queen reigning over her entourage. When all is tranquil, the water lilies gradually change colour and the larger flowers give off glimmers of light. The flowers react to each other, and seem to communicate. If the peace of the water lilies is disturbed by a camera flash, the flowers react quite violently. The larger specimens blink brightly, as if to protect the colony. The smaller water lilies retreat into the darkness to recover their composure, after which they reappear.

[112] 12/11/2014 - Dernière modification le 12/02/2021 Probably, Definitely, Maybe We live in an uncertain world and we deal with this by considering possibilities and probabilities; from what movies you might be interested in to what diseases you might have given your symptoms. Without realising it people interact with systems that utilise probability on a daily basis. But what is probability, how to we measure and work with it? Given the wealth of big data collected how can we use that to predict the future? What if there is noise in the data? What if the data changes over time? To answer these questions we start with the fundamentals of probability theory before looking Bayesian systems (frequently a key part of recommendation and expert systems), Markov chains (useful in predicting human behaviour), and dynamic Bayesian networks (such as Kalman filters and hidden Markov chains which are often used in real-time systems like auto-pilot navigation). Along the way we'll try to demonstrate the mathematics using simple Java/Groovy examples. No knowledge of advanced mathematics is required! Source: DEVOXX

[113] 13/11/2014 - Dernière modification le 07/02/2021 ny modern web application today sports a rich and powerful user interface with sophisticated business logic built right in to the UI. The behaviour of the UI is an integral part of the user experience. For modern web applications, automated web tests are an essential part of your testing arsenal. But at the same time automated web testing is hard. Web tests can be fragile, and easily broken by small UI changes. They can be complex, and hard to trouble-shoot when something goes wrong. This session is a live coding demonstration using a live, real-world web site. We will be going from automated acceptance criteria using Cucumber-JVM and Thucydides to working automated acceptance tests and living documentation. You will learn: - When to write web tests, and when not to write them - Techniques to make your web tests easier to maintain and easier to update - Tips and tricks for automating modern, javascript-based web applications using Selenium 2/WebDriver. • Ancien sanatorium de Borgoumont (sanatorium du Basil)
    https://www.gaudry.be > Photo > Galerie
• Chernobyl Diaries control room
    https://www.gaudry.be > Photo > Galerie
[117] 02/09/2016 - Dernière modification le 18/02/2021 I had seen this control room in the movie "Chernobyl Diaries" (a movie I did not like at all), and I dreamed of visiting it one day. It's been done since this summer. Until now, the abandoned place that had inspired me most, impressed, and made me dream, was the ECVB powerplant, with its titanic dimentions, a dark dead and silent world, where rusty hues barely hang the weak Rays of light, under a layer of ashes, asbestos, and dust. In total contrast to the dark and almost oppressive atmosphere of the ECVB, this control room is extremely bright and colorful thanks to this magnificent glass roof. It almost feels like a fairy tale ballroom, amidst laughter and music. The consoles in the control room are covered with a layer of dust that testifies to the years of abandonment (it has been closed since 2005), but the whole remains clean and clean. Thank you to my companions of this adventure, Sophie, Lise, and Jef, for their patience, their dynamism and my questionable music program during the many hours I was driving.

Stefan Keim, culture journalist. GLOWING is an urban light and sound installation that plays with all the senses. The festival route leads through the Expeditiestraat and in doing so through an urban-industrial layout of streets. Both the special atmosphere and the architectural character of the Expeditiestraat, divided into three by the crossbeams, defines the spatial appearance of the scene. The sun, as the origin of life. Fire, as the source of warmth and culture. These two-strong emotional and associative basic principles form the conceptual approach for this production. The public become one with the entire scene in this spectacle, that stirs all the senses and provides a physical explanation of art and nature. The audience transverse a kind of tunnel, one side of which is covered with black molton, and provides a view of a fiery scene. All the walls form a kind of sea of flames. This fire has no beginning and no end, solely infinitely glowing flames, acoustically supported by music with subsonic effects. Source: www.gloweindhoven.nl
