Signant de son retentissant « Cocorico !!! » de nombreuses cases des albums d’Astérix, le coq du Village est la plus grande star animalière de la série après Idéfix (et les sangliers !). Il obtient d’ailleurs une consécration méritée lorsqu’Albert Uderzo lui fait l’honneur d’une histoire portant son nom dans Astérix et la rentrée gauloise.
Chanteclairix, puisque tel est son patronyme, y affronte avec succès l’imposant aigle impérial, imbu de sa prétendue supériorité romaine. Le combat paraît tout d’abord inégal, mais l’aide d’Idéfix, assisté d’un peu de potion magique, permet au coq gaulois de triompher. Qu’on se le dise, les animaux du Village eux aussi sont d’irréductibles résistants !
Étymologie
Chanteclairix est inspiré de Chantecler le coq dans le Roman de Renart, un ensemble médiéval de récits animaliers écrits en ancien français et en vers.
