Lefranc est envoyé en Australie afin de couvrir les J.O. de 1956, mais la météo et ses caprices l'empêchent de continuer sa route.
Il accepte alors la proposition de son ami, l'athlète Jean Duval, de terminer le trajet en hydravion.
Mais rien ne se passe comme prévu. Après un amerrissage forcé, Lefranc et le reste des naufragés sont recueillis par un immense bateau tout droit sorti du futur…
