Votiak est un client brutal et malhonnête d'une taverne où Thorgal et Shaniah se rendent parfois.
Votiak a repéré un vieil homme, un étranger, dont la bourse est pleine de pièces. En s'approchant de la table, il entend parler de la grande valeur de l'objet que le vagabond Thorgal porte à son cou. Il s'en empare, sans savoir que ce morceau de plomb tordu est un puissant artefact, la clé du Deuxième Monde. Un objet que seul Thorgal peut porter.
Son corps est brisé et anéanti en un instant par la puissance de l'objet.
