Wade Tillman se rend à un carnaval à Hoboken, dans le New Jersey, lors d’un voyage en tant que membre d’une église qui prêche l’Apocalypse, annonçant que l’horloge de la fin du monde se rapproche de l’anéantissement nucléaire.
Tillman est harcelé par un groupe de Knot Tops, mais il est emmené dans la galerie des glaces par une jeune femme nommée Roxi. Roxi fait des avances à Wade, lui proposant d’avoir des relations sexuelles étant donné que c’est la fin du monde; avant de retirer tous ses vêtements, elle s’enfuit avec les habits de Wade en le laissant dans la Galerie des Glaces, face à ses propres reflets sur les miroirs (traumatisme dont il s’inspirera pour la confection de son masque après la Nuit Blanche de 2016).
