La Altagracia est la plus orientale des 32 provinces de la République dominicaine.

Le nom commémore la peinture de Notre-Dame de La Altagracia, apportée d'Espagne au XVIe siècle. Divers miracles sont attribués à cette œuvre. La Vierge a donné son nom à un sanctuaire à Salvaleón de Higüey (une ville connue simplement sous le nom de Higüey), sur lequel dans la seconde moitié du 20ème siècle a été construite la cathédrale ou basilique de Notre-Dame d'Altagracia, inaugurée en 1971.

C'est actuellement la première province du pays en termes de tourisme, cette province a le luxe d'avoir l'aéroport international de Punta Cana qui est l'aéroport le plus important de l'île puisqu'il reçoit 64% de tous les vols qui arrivent dans le pays. également le premier aéroport international privé au monde.

Province La Altagracia couvre une superficie de 2,998.4i  km2 avec une population de 273,210i habitants (2017), soit densité de 91.12i habitants par Km2.
