Après un mois passé dans la ferme des Reuter, Marc et Kim prennent place à bord d’un camion en direction de Janida Cross. Peu avant de prendre place à bord d’un dirigeable pour la capitale, Kim remarque que les soldats ont fait prisonnière . Ils suivent les soldats jusqu’à l’hôtel où ils la séquestrent, car Kim veut l’interroger discrètement à propos de la créature qui a ravagé leur village. Lorsque l’inconnue s’échappe, Marc se trouve mêlé à son évasion et fuit avec elle.
La fuyarde explique à Marc s’appelle Alexa. Elle est grièvement blessée et Marc tente de la soigner. Marc doit l’amputer d’une main.
Ils sont recherchés par les soldats et Monseigneur Loomis. Marc se rend compte qu’Alexa possède d’incroyables facultés de récupération.
