Jean relates the story about his friend to a reporter who is trying to find out the truth about Jacques, a talented, rising impresario with a reputation for drinking, womanizing and erratic behavior. Jacques had confided once to Jean that he had success, glory, money, but had been too blind in the past to seize the thing that would make him happy. Later, he seemed transformed as he entered a three-week detox clinic because lost love would be waiting for him. But he tragically died of a heart attack. Then the reporter reveals that she was the girl Jacques had loved.
