L'image ci-dessus nous montre la mascotte du langage PHP, créée par Elroubioref 1, et illustre la transformation des lettres PHP vers un éléPHPant qui présente de fortes similitudes au niveau de la forme.

Le langage PHP est un langage de programmation de haut niveau, directement développé pour être intégré au langage HTML ou XHTML, et dont le code est exécuté du coté du serveur.
La différence par rapport à un langage tel que Javascript est que le code JavaScript est téléchargé sur la machine du client et interprété par le navigateur, alors que dans le cas du PHP le navigateur ne reçoit que le résultat des actions du script, sous forme de page HTML.
