Une partie de l'expo Génération '80 est dédiée aux grandes catastrophes écologiques qui se sont produites entre 1980 et 1990.
Accidents nucléaires (En 1986 à Tchernobyl, qui entraîne des centaines de milliers de morts jusqu'à présent), mais aussi chimique (En décembre 1984 à Bhopal en Inde, qui a causé plus de 8000 morts dans les 3 premiers jours et plus de 20 000 morts en 20 ans), pétrolier (en 1989 au sud de l'Alaska, le nauffrage du pétrolier Exxon Valdez, ou encore en 1988 en mer du Nord, l'explosion de la plateforme pétrolière Piper-Alpha).
