Reddition de Lee
La reddition de Lee (ou reddition d’Appomattox) désigne la capitulation de l’armée de Virginie du Nord le 9 avril 1865. Elle est signée dans le salon de la maison de Wilmer McLean à Appomattox par le général sudiste Robert E. Lee au terme de la bataille d’Appomattox Court House. En vertu des conditions offertes par le lieutenant-général Ulysses S. Grant, les sudistes sont libérés sur parole. Elle marque la fin de la guerre de Sécession sur le théâtre oriental et symboliquement sur les autres théâtres d’opérations. Néanmoins, elle ne met pas fin aux combats, quelques escarmouches ayant lieu sur les théâtres occidental et Trans-Mississippi après cette reddition.
