- Le script est un programme informatique qui ne nécessite pas de compilation avant d'être exécuté. Pour fonctionner, les scripts doivent être Interprétation par un programme (le navigateur Web par exemple) ou un serveur dédié au langage dans lequel ils ont été écrits.
Sur Internet, on peut distinguer deux sortes de langages de script : ceux interprétés par le client (c'est le cas du JavaScript ou VBScript, compris par le navigateur Internet) et ceux interprétés par le serveur (les langages de développement de sites dynamiques comme PHP ou ASP en font partie).
Le terme script est aussi souvent utilisé pour désigner une liste des commandes pour l’automatisation d’une tâche.
