Arrivée de Valérian au relais de l’an mil sous une auberge près de la forêt d’Arelaune. Il passe rapidement sous un casque mnémotechnique pour apprendre le langage en vigueur à cette époque en ce moment.
Après s’être équipé et vêtu en rapport avec l’an mil, Valérian quitte le relais et découvre Geoffroy qui lui explique que Xombul l’a agressé avant de se rendre dans la forêt. Valérian signe le registre avec l’identifiant de son spatio-temps (XB27), puis part à cheval à la poursuite de Xombul, malgré l’avertissement de paysans à propos des ensorcellements de la forêt.
