Le directeur du centre médical de haute sécurité conduit Tony et Whip dans la salle où Rutherfordt repose inconscient depuis des années dans une cuve remplie de liquide. La pièce est meublée exactement à l’identique de la maison que la NASA avait mis à la disposition de l’astronaute avant sa mission. Tony remarque sur une photo, que Rutherfordt et Wordling ont une apparence quasi identique.
les deux agents du w se rendent alors compte que le corps devant eux est celui de Wordling. Il y a eu permutation avant l’atterrissage, et celui que tout le monde pensait être Wordling est en réalité Rutherfordt.
