Zhang Xiaoyu est né le 28 avril 1975 à Anshun, dans la province du Guizhou, en Chine. Il vit actuellement à Chengdu, dans le Sichuan. En 1995, il sort diplômé de l’École supérieure des Beaux-Arts du Guizhou. Il commence sa première BD pendant ses études. De 1997 à 2005, il fut rédacteur en chef pour le magazine LE MONDE DES SF, ainsi que responsable des magazines BD FLYING et LE MONDE DES SF. À partir de 2007, il devient dessinateur indépendant. De 1999 à 2008, il a été lauréat de divers prix BD chinois. Il a aujourd’hui à son actif 19 albums, dont Le clown, publié chez Casterman en 2007, Au fond du rêve, Sombre futur, L‘envol chez Xiaopan en 2007, Crusades aux Humanos en 2009, et Chine regards croisés chez Casterman en 2009.
