Définition de «Niab»

En kauli, le niab est un poisson d’eau profonde qui ne remonte à proximité de la surface qu’à la nuit tombée. Les pêcheurs kauliens se servent d’une grande toile foncée qu’ils tendent sur l’eau entre plusieurs bateaux pour le leurrer. Il ne leur reste plus ensuite qu’à le « cueillir » en plongeant, le niab entrant dans une sorte de somnolence.
De là, l’insulte de niab pour une personne trop crédule, ou qui agit sans réfléchir.
