Après avoir compris qu'il y a en fait deux artefacts, John perce peu à peu les mystères de ses souvenirs d'enfance. Il emmène le Dr Halsey sur la planète Eridanus II, l'une des installations de « Reach for life », une colonie autrefois dirigée par ses parents. Accompagnée de Soren, Kwan revient, elle, sur Madrigal. Elle veut lever une armée de rebelles.
