Socket :
Les slots et les sockets permettent de connecter un processeur sur une carte mère. La plupart des sockets et des processeurs actuels sont construits autour de l'architecture Pin Grid Array (PGA), dans laquelle les broches en dessous du processeur sont insérées dans le socket, d'habitude avec la Zero Insertion Force (ZIF) pour faciliter l'installation.


Parmi les processeurs sur Socket 7, nous pouvons remarquer les Pentium 75-›200, Pentium ODP 125-›166, Pentium ODP MMX 125-›200, Pentium MMX 166-›233, K5, K6, K6-2, K6-2+, K6-III, K6-III+.
