Article publié le 16/11/2004 13:33:41Solaris 10, de SUN est une version UNIX libre qui sera distribuée en janvier 2005 pour le plateformes x86, Xeon, Nocona, Opteron et SPARC.
L’éditeur imite les atouts de Linux et propose, outre l’ouverture contrôlée du code-source, une version gratuite de son système d’exploitation.
Sun proposait déjà Red Hat Linux, et il semblerait qu'il se fasse concurence à lui-même, mais c'est tout bénéfice pour les utilisateurs.
Solaris a tout pour séduire:
- gratuité du produit
- support de Sun
- ouverture du code source
- N1 Grid Containers côté virtualisation
- introduction de ZFS (système de ficheirs 128 bits aux capacités "illimitées")
- exécution émulée d’applications GNU/Linux à vitesse "native"
