Le 5 mars la première version beta d’Internet Explorer 8 sera dévoilée lors de la prochaine conference MIX08, l’événement qui rassemble les développeurs de Microsoft.

La compatibilité d’Internet Explorer 8 avec les standards actuels (CSS 2.1, HTML 5 et XHTML 1.1) devrait être largement améliorée. Microsoft travaillerait en étroite collaboration avec le W3C pour améliorer la compatibilité avec ces standards. Le passage des tests Acid est également une priorité. Cette nouvelle version espère ainsi combler le retard constaté face aux autres navigateurs Internet qui intègrent dèjà les nouveaux standards du Web.

La présence d’un mode spécial, au sein duquel le navigateur respectera les standards "à la lettre", permettrait de faciliter le développement des sites Web. Cette première beta privée ne sera accessible qu’à un panel de testeurs triés sur le volet, avant la sortie d’une beta publique.
