Bande de fréquences occupée par un signal avant sa modulation en vue d’une transmission, ou après démodulation.
bande de fréquences
(angl: frequency band)
Ensemble continu des fréquences comprises entre deux fréquences spécifiées. La bande de fréquences transmise par le téléphone est : 300 - 3400 Hz.
Largeur de bande
(angl: Bandwidth).
Différence qui s’exprime en hertz (Hz) entre les deux fréquences extrêmes d’une bande. Par exemple, le tube cathodique d’un écran graphique doit avoir une bande de fréquences supérieure à 15 Mhz pour afficher au moins 80 caractères par ligne.
Bande passante
La bande passante est un autre terme pour désigner la largeur de bande (voir ci-dessus).
Le terme bande passante est souvent employé à tort pour désigner la capacité de transmission d’un canal ou d’une liaison de communication qui s’exprime en mégabits par seconde (Mbps).
