Chuck Noland, gestionnaire au service d'un transporteur international ne vit que par son travail. Il sillonne le monde pour améliorer les performances de son entreprise et la productivité de ses équipes. Il ne voit sa compagne Kelly que quelques jours par an. Lors de l'un de ses déplacements, Chuck est victime d'un crash et son avion coule en plein Pacifique. Agrippé à un radeau de sauvetage, Chuck s'échoue sur un îlot désert. Seul au monde, privé de tous ses repères habituels, le naufragé doit apprendre les gestes élémentaires pour sa survie.
Les parents sont fortement invités à surveiller les enfants de moins de 13 ans
