Jamie Shannon, un mercenaire, travaille pour une compagnie minière qui l'envoie en repérage dans un petit pays d'Afrique sous la coupe d'un dictateur sanguinaire. Incarcéré, torturé, il sympathise en prison avec un opposant au régime. De retour à Londres, on lui propose de renverser le dictateur.
