Otto Meyer, à l’origine de la restauration de L’orgue du diable, travailla d’arrache-pied à cette fin avec le père d’Ingrid et son neveu Karl. Soupçonnait-il que Karl était le meurtrier du père d’Ingrid? Sans doute, mais dépassé par les événements, perdant la mémoire et la raison, il refusa la réalité. Il faut également ajouter à cela son somnambulisme, sa naïveté et les drogues que lui administrait son neveu. Le trio et Ingrid lui accorderont des circonstances atténuantes.
