Masako est la mère de Yoko; elle n’a eu qu’un seul enfant. On sait peu de chose de cette femme, bien qu’on apprenne à la découvrir dans L’écume de l’aube (roman). On la retrouve également dans La fille du vent.
Toujours à l’ombre de son mari, Seiki Tsuno, et de son équipe scientifique, Masako est une femme occupée et était une mère "débordée". Elle aime toutefois tendrement sa fille qu’elle a nommée "Yoko" en se remémorant le nom de la poupée qu’elle préférait étant petite.
