L'attribut lang nous permet de spécifier dans quelle langue de base sont écrits les valeurs d'attribut et le contenu textuel d'un élément.Le navigateur peut utiliser cet attribut de différentes manières. Il peut par exemple :
- assister la tâche des moteurs de recherche.
- assister la tâche des synthétiseurs de parole.
- aider l'agent utilisateur à choisir les variantes de glyphes pour une typographie de haute qualité.
- aider l'agent utilisateur à choisir un jeu de guillemets.
- aider l'agent utilisateur à prendre des décisions sur la césure, les ligatures et l'espacement.
- assister la tâche des vérificateurs orthographiques et grammaticaux.
