ODBC est une interface de programmation de Microsoft qui permet d'accéder à une base de données en réseau avec un langage commun.
ODBC intervient à différents niveaux. Pour les bases de données client/serveur, comme Oracle ou SQL Server, ODBC fournit des liens aux moteurs d'accès. Dans le cas de bases sur poste de travail, comme dBase ou FoxPro, ODBC manipule elle-même les données.Une application utilisera toujours SQL pour communiquer avec ODBC mais ODBC pourra adresser des bases non SQL.
