- NX-bit
- L'Execute Disable bit, (NX-bit pour AMD et XD-bit pour Intel dans son architecture EM64T), apparu en premier lieu sur les AMD64, est une fonction incluse dans certains CPU permettant de protéger la mémoire système contre des insertions et des exécutions de code pouvant endommager ou ralentir l'ordinateur. Ainsi, si un ver essaie d'insérer son code dans le tampon, le processeur empêche l'exécution de celui-ci, empêchant d'éventuels dommages ou propagation du vers.
Cette fonction de sécurité marche en coordination avec le système d'exploitation.
Elle a été intégrée avec les versions Service Pack 2 de Windows XP, depuis mai 2003 dans le kernel OpenBSD et juin 2004 en ce qui concerne le plus populaire Linux.
La présence du NX-bit peut se déduire du CPUID
NX Bit : CPUID[EAX=0x8000001] / EDX = 0x20100000 - Bit 20 = 1
