Le core Newcastle est apparu pour permettre à AMD de proposer des Athlon 64 à des prix plus raisonnables, du moins sur socket 754. En effet, ce core Newcastle se différenciait du Clawhammer par le passage du cache de niveau 2 de 1024 à 512 Ko. Pour le reste on retrouve une finesse de gravure en 0.13µ et les instructions SSE, SSE2, MMX, 3DNow et x86-64. Ce core Newcastle a été décliné en diverses versions de 1.8 à 2.4 GHz aussi bien sur socket 754 que 939 :
  • Athlon 64 2800+ 1.8 GHz socket 754
  • Athlon 64 3000+ 2.0 GHz socket 754
  • Athlon 64 3200+ 2.2 GHz socket 754
  • Athlon 64 3400+ 2.4 GHz socket 754
  • Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2 GHz socket 939
  • Athlon 64 3800+ 2.4 GHz socket 939
