ASCII
(angl: American standard code for information interchange.)

Norme de codage à 128 caractères, comprenant les lettres de l’alphabet, les chiffres et des signes typographiques, qui se base sur une combinaison de sept bits plus 1 bit de contrôle de parité, nommée octet et qui sert à l’échange d’informations entre deux microordinateurs ou compatibles IBM.
Normalisé sous le nom de CCITT nº 5.

ASCII extended :
(fr: ASCII étendu)‹br›Jeu de caractères ASCII étendu, formé de 8 bits plus 1 bit de contrôle de parité, qui offre 256 caractères dont les accents et les symboles mathématiques. Il est dépendant des caractéristiques nationales ou linguistiques.
