Né le 31 octobre 1949 à Christchurch en Nouvelle Zélande. Il débute comme dessinateur graphiste pour la télévision, puis comme photographe de sport automobile et comme illustrateur indépendant avant de se consacrer complètement à la bande dessinée. L'occasion lui en a été donnée en 1980 pendant des vacances prolongées à Londres où il a collaboré au magazine 2000 AD en travaillant sur les séries Judge Dredd et Rogue Trooper. En 1984, son premier album Raël a été publié en France et deux autres ensuite. C'est à ce moment-là que Jean-Michel Charlier et Jean Giraud lui ont demandé de dessiner les nouveaux épisodes de La Jeunesse de Blueberry dont il a déjà réalisé cinq albums. Entre temps, il a dessiné un album de la série Thunderhawks paru en 1992. Colin Wilson réside en Australie.
