Un spatio-temps vient de disparaitre à Galaxity. Le Superintendant des SET convoque immédiatement Valérian qui est en repos sur la 18è planète de l’étoile double d’Acturus. En même temps, de graves perturbations au Service des Rêves sont provoquées par un sabotage de Xombul (le Superintendant des Rêves).
Valérian part chez Xombul pour enquêter, où il découvre un manuel de sorcellerie daté de l’an mil, et rédigé par Alberic le Vieil. Le Superintendant découvre alors que le spatio-temps volé par Xombul vient de se matérialiser dans le relais temporel de l’an mil.
Après un cocktail de protéines suractivées pris au bar du relais spatio-temporel de Galaxity, Valérian effectue un saut de 18 siècles dans le passé pour arriver 1000">.
